First Staging of Passion Project A SuccessJanuary 26, 2015
Residents of the Gregory Park community in St. Catherine, Jamaica recently benefited from the first staging of The Passion Project Workshop, held in collaboration with the Forward Step Foundation. The workshop, which was attended by young adults and teenagers from the community, took place on Saturday January 24, 2015. Participants were taught about goal-setting strategies that can be adapted for their personal and professional lives. The activities included two hours of discussions and exercises to help them develop useful skills that they can apply to everyday decisions and increase the likelihood to accomplish their goals. Passion Project Brings Encouragement to Teen MothersKingston, Jamaica (May 15, 2015) - Students at the Women’s Centre in Spanish Town, St. Catherine are the latest beneficiaries of the Passion Project, a year-long motivational workshop series created to empower young people in various aspects of their lives.
Eleven teenaged mothers and mothers-to-be were participants in a Parenting Workshop held on May 14, 2015 as part of the Centre’s child month activities. Former teen mother and Coordinator of the Passion Project, Denise Clarke, facilitated the animated discussion in which the participants shared the goals they hope to accomplish for their lives. Ms. Clarke also offered parenting advice, and encouraged the young women to think positively and set goals for themselves and their children. “From this moment, it is up to you to make the right decisions for you and your child. Even though most of you are still growing, you have to make the commitment to be responsible parents and set examples for your children in the way you speak, the way you dress and the choices you will make. This is not the end of the road; it is a hurdle that you will overcome if you make up your mind to do it,” she said. The Passion Project was launched in January 2015 as a personal project of Denise Clarke to provide mentorship and empowerment that will help teenagers and young adults achieve success in their personal or professional lives. The parenting workshop was the third staging this year, and the second held at the Women’s Centre. The next Passion Project workshop will focus on career planning and is being finalized for July 2015. |
